Board of Selectmen

Town of Tolland

MINUTES OF SELECTMEN MEETING –   October 18, 2021 5:00 PM

Selectmen Present:    Steven DellaGiustina, Patrick Barrett and Eric R. Munson, Jr

Also Present:   Susan Clark, Tom O’Rourke and Ed Deming

Tom O’Rourke requested an event permit for October 22-24, 2021 to be held on property owned by Joseph and Susan Clark of Burt Hill Road. The event will have approximately 120 people onsite, including staff and participants. The event is along the lines of Live Action Role Playing (LARP), sort of Video Games like “Call of Duty” come to life. The participants dress in military style uniforms and other character outfits and will be using airsoft / replica (no real guns)

Tom is aware of complaints of some noise issues and people walking down the road in their military gear during the Vietnam reenactment.   They have identified some of those people and they are not allowed at future events on the Clark’s property.

Tom stated this is a different style event as well where the reenactors were trying to simulate military history which included Viet Cong being sneaky and “attacking” (not real attack, but simulated) the GI’s at night. Setting up specific rules with these new players to make sure that does not happen.

Ed Deming gave his notice of intent as to retiring on February 25, 2022 from the positions of Superintendent of Public Works and Tolland Police Chief.

Meeting adjourned at 6:30PM

Respectfully submitted,

Margaret McClellan
