Tolland Public Library Offers Hands-on Monet-Inspired Pastel Painting Workshop for Adults, with Pastelist Gregory Maichack 6/11/2019

The Tolland Public Library will host award-winning pastel artist Gregory John Maichack to present an adult hands-on workshop, “Monet’s Magic: Pastel Paint Monet’s Wondrous Water Lilies,” on June 11, 2019 from 6-8pm at the Tolland Town Hall. This pastel painting workshop is designed for sheer beginners to experienced artists. Seats may fill quickly so please call 413-258-4201 to pre-register and leave your full name and a number where you can be reached..

Imagine using the actual imagery that inspired Monet to paint his “Water Lily” paintings. In this new, highly researched two-hour workshop, participants create  their own pastel painting, freely experimenting with hundreds of the artist’s professional grade pastels, pastel pencils, and pastel paper, in this fun pastel painting workshop.

Gregory Maichack is a seasoned pro at teaching pastel techniques, as recognized by the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) Boston; Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), and over 800 libraries and local cultural councils.  He guides participants through drawing lily pads and water lilies. Then participants are encouraged to make it their own using his water garden photos he took on site at Monet’s home studio in Giverny, France, the site from which Monet painted his famous water lilies. Expressive and fun, you will quickly learn how easy and direct pastel painting is and as always, all will keep their pastel painting.

Maichack has been a faculty member of the Museum Studio School in the Fine Arts Museum Quadrangle in Springfield, MA; and taught at Holyoke and Greenfield Community Colleges, Westfield State University, East Works, the MFA, Boston, and The Guild, Northampton. Maichack’s pastel paintings have been selected twice for the Annual National Exhibition of the Academic Artists Association and as a result Maichack was invited to be a member of this prestigious organization.

Mr Maichack has been to Tolland many times and we have seen many repeat attendees at these programs. We are always eager to see some new faces. Reservations are on a first come first served basis. That being said, please be polite and give fair warning if you can not attend as we will be keeping a waiting list.

“This project is supported in part by a grant from the Tolland Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.”
