Tolland designated a Green Community

In November 2019 the Town of Tolland applied to the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources to become designated as a green community. The application required the town to have energy audits performed on all town owned buildings and adopt the “Stretch” Building Code for new residential construction.  We then identified areas where the town could reduce 20% of our energy consumption. Some of the projects that were identified were installing LED lights in the Public Safety Complex and town hall; replace the oil-fired heating systems in the Town Hall and Library with more efficient equipment; and reducing the fuel consumption by the town’s fleet of vehicles through use of idle right systems, using telemetrics on the most frequently used vehicles and improved maintaince.

Along with the Green Community designation, the state has awarded Tolland a grant of $126,860 to implement these energy savings projects. We will keep you updated as these various projects are completed.
