A Friendly Snow Reminder from the Tolland Highway Department

The Highway Department is responsible for maintaining safe travel conditions on public town roads. Our crew works endlessly before, during, and after winter storms to clear the roads, and we understand residents need to keep their driveways cleared as well. Please DO NOT push snow across the road when clearing driveways. It creates hard pack and ice on the roadway. The hard pack is dangerous for road users and plowing operations. Snow plows trip on the ice pack and can cause damage to the plow and/or truck. It could also cause vehicles to leave their lane of travel due to loss of traction control.

Please, do not push snow across the road when clearing driveways.

I am available to discuss this should anyone need assistance or have any questions.

Please refer to the Town Bylaw below regarding snow removal.

Happy New Year!

Thank you,

Kate Donovan
