Announcement from the Tolland Board of Selectmen about COVID-19

As a precaution, the Tolland Board of Selectmen has decided to close all town buildings to the public on March 16th and plan to reopen on March 30th. All meetings and events have been cancelled with the exception of the March 16th Board of Selectmen’s meeting. Following the updated Open Meeting Law, remote access will be arranged. Interested parties should contact the Selectmen’s office Monday afternoon for instructions. All other departments will be checking voicemail regularly and fulfilling any information or other requests as they are able.

At this time, the State Special Election scheduled for March 31st is still on. Remember that absentee ballots can be requested online or applications may be dropped at the Town Hall in the mail slot on the door facing Route 57. There will be absentee ballot request forms in the Library drop box as well. If you are voting by mail, you should be sure to submit your application in a timely manner. Please allow enough time for the ballot to be mailed to you and for you to return the ballot by Election Day. All ballots being mailed from inside the United States must be received by your local election official no later than the close of polls on Election Day. The absentee ballot can’t be dropped in the Town Hall front door mail slot; it must be mailed so that it has a postmark or hand delivered to the Town Clerk up until close of polls 8:00 p.m. day of the election.

The Tolland Public Library will be closed per the Selectmen’s request. However, as long as the CWMARS system continues delivery, all requested items will be processed and arrangements made with patrons for pickup. All items will be wiped down with sanitizer. Any items that are requested form our own library will also be sanitized. All items that are currently out and due during the two week closure can either be returned after the Library reopens. Due dates will be suspended until March 30th. Don’t forget that there is an enormous digital collection that you have rights to with your CWMARS card. Go to CWMARS.org for information or call the Library and leave a message for a call back.

The Transfer Station will remain open during its normal operating hours. Please practice social distancing recommendations with staff and other users.

Any further information or changes will be posted on the website and at the Town Hall and Library posting boards.
