Town of Tolland
MINUTES OF SELECTMEN MEETING – September 18, 2023 5:00 PM
Selectmen Present: Steven DellaGiustina, Patrick Barrett and Ed Deming
Also Present: Tina Desroches, Matt Ripley, Steve Carrington and Jeff LaCasse (phone)
Tina Desroches stated Tolland has funds available for playgroups or early education activities through a state funded grant entitled Coordinated Family and Community Engagement. Southwick and Granville have activities scheduled in their libraries or town halls. Tina Desroches facilitates the playgroups for children birth-5 and their parents as well as baby groups in Southwick and Granville. She would be able to give Tolland families the same opportunity. The playgroup would meet once a month for about an hour. She requested the 4th Tuesday from 10-11 from October to June. The Select Board approved of the group.
Jeff LaCasse has received verbal approval from the Northampton Control Board. Tolland Select Board stated they are switching from Berkshire Sheriff’s Control to Northampton Control to have better radio communications. Engineers are reviewing the “build out” plans. The “build out” will take approximately 8 to 10 months.
Kate gave an update on the Transfer Station compactor. The compactor will need to be replaced. The bottom of the container is barely attached. Kate will look into options of either purchasing another compactor or leasing.
Kate would like to bid the lawn mowing for next year this fall instead of the spring.
Ed voiced his concerns with the schedule of the Tolland Police Officers. He feels the Officers are not out on patrol when the town needs coverage the most. Steve Carrington stated his two officers are working their 10 hours weekly and also attending the bridge academy. Steve will advertise for additional officers.
Steve DellaGiustina received complaints from Tolland residents of the lack of return phone calls for plumbing inspections. Currently, Charles Pease is the Plumping Inspector. Steve DellaGiustina will contact the inspector from the Town of Granville to check his availability for Tolland.
