TOLLAND GREEN COMMUNITY PROJECTS COMPLETED

TOLLAND GREEN COMMUNITY PROJECTS COMPLETED

In November 2019 the Town of Tolland applied to the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources to become designated as a Green Community and was awarded a grant of $126,860 to be applied to projects that would make our town facilities more energy efficient.

The projects were:

Install LED lighting in the Town Hall and PSC. The LED lighting replaced the old less efficient fluorescent fixtures.

Repair and recommission the HVAC controls in the PSC which improved the efficiency of the heating system.

Install air sourced heat pumps (mini split) in the Town Hall and Library to replace the old inefficient oil fired heating systems. The mini splits provided the additional benefit of air conditioning both buildings.

Reducing fuel consumption in the Police Cruisers and DPW pick up truck by installing Idle-Right systems so the vehicle’s engine can be turned off with the lights and radios operating. When the battery charge is getting low the vehicle automatically restarts and runs until the battery is fully charged. This significantly reduces the amount of time the vehicles idle and burn gas.

As of August 16, 2021 all these projects are completed and operating.
