Free PFSA testing Available For Well Water

Free PFSA testing available for well water in selected towns

Residents of Granville, Montgomery, Otis and TOLLAND who use well water can have their wells tested for PFAS contamination for free.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection is offering free tests in communities where at least 80% of residents use private wells for their drinking water. The tests establish if the water supply contains per- and polyfluoralki1 substances, also known as PFAS, which have been linked to adverse health effects.

Well owners may apply online for a testing kit at dwp-pfas.madwpdep.org. Those without internet access can call 413 545-7327 to apply. Well owners will perform the sampling themselves. There is no cost to ship the sample to the laboratory, or for the laboratory tests themselves. No outside worker will need access to the well or the property. Results will be shared with the well owner and the town board of Health.

The free testing offer is only available in select towns, and only for a limited time
