The Granville Tolland Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation is pleased and proud to announce that it has recently awarded $28,325 in scholarships to 24 deserving Granville and Tolland college undergraduates for the 2010-2011 school year.  Scholarship recipients and their schools are as follows:  Sydney Adams – University of Massachusetts – Amherst,  Kelsey Blaze – Thomas Moore College,  Colleen Hauff – Slippery Rock University, Amy LeFebvre – Ohio Wesleyan University, Zachary Madera – Westfield State College,  Jason Miller – Keene State College, Jessica Miller – Elms College, Lindsay Nobbs – University of Massachusetts – Boston, Naomi Orcutt – Hampshire College, Sara Roberts – Lasell College, Katryn Sandsmark – Southern Connecticut State University, Stephanie Saulenas – Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Kristen Simeone – Coastal Carolina University, Shawna Sperry – Springfield Technical Community College, Stephanie Tenerowicz – Roger Williams University, Leah Teter – Keene State College, and William Teter – University of Massachusetts – Lowell.

The GTCSF also awarded seven scholarships from five permanent endowments with named scholarships, the Walter A. and Katherine E. Phelon Memorial Fund, the Dorothy Miller Trust, the 1st Lt. Travis Fuller Memorial Scholarship Fund, the Jane and Stuart Watson Fund and the Everett O. and Miriam T. Rockwell Scholarship Fund.  Recipients of these named scholarships are as follows:   Jonathan Macomber – University of Massachusetts – Amherst  and Katie Tysz – Holyoke Community College or Elms College for the Dorothy Miller Trust Scholarship, Anna Teter – Lasell College for the Walter A. and Katherine E. Phelon Memorial Scholarship, Hillary Adams – University of Massachusetts – Amherst and Marguerite Pratt – American International College for the 1st Lt. Rockwell Scholarship.

Funding for our scholarships comes from our Annual Spring Campaign, the Rock-A-Thon, Harvest Fair, donations from the Granville Village School Dress Down Days as well as from our endowments.  Endowment monies are used to supplement each year’s Annual Appeal results so more funds can be made available to recipients.  Currently there are five endowment funds in operation with an additional two to have funds available in the 2011-2012 school year.  The Dorothy M. Miller Fund was started over 30 years ago.  It was followed by the Walter A. and Katherine E. Phelon Fund.  The 1st. Lt. Travis Fuller Memorial Scholarship Fund was created five years ago, the Jane and Stuart Watson Fund was created by Watson family members to honor their parents in 2006 and the Everett O. and Miriam T. Rockwell Fund was established by retired Granville Village School principal, Everett Rockwell, and his wife in 2007.  Look for information in the near future announcing our two new endowment fund scholarships.

We would like to once again thank all who have donated to the Granville Tolland Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation.  Your generosity goes a long way toward helping our recipients achieve their higher education goals and ambitions.

Congratulations and best of luck to our 2010-2011 Scholarship Recipients!
