Checklist for Additions or Alterations
STEPS NECESSARY TO OBTAIN A BUILDING PERMIT FOR ADDITION OR ALTERATIONS
Download Building Permit Application
Complete all required applications. NOTE: Due to size, type of location of construction, or project, some application
may not be required; Planning Board approval may be needed. Discuss requirements with Building Inspector.
The following are forms needed for a Building Permit (additions or alterations)
l Building Application
l Two Complete Sets of Plans and Specifications.
l Energy Conservation Application
l Homeowners Exemption Form, where needed
l Sewage Disposal System Plan by a Registered Engineer (only if bedroom added)
l Conservation Commission Approval Form (if lake or brook side)
l Fuel Oil and Storage Tank Application
l Driveway and Drainage Permit Application (if driveway is new or being altered)
l Planning Board requirements: Site Plans, THREE COPIES, providing:
1. Name, Address, Lot #
2. True or Magnetic North
3. New buildings must show all overhangs and extensions, including decks, steps, etc.
4. All existing buildings and structures.
5. Parking areas.
6. Loading areas.
7. Driveways.
8. All facilities for Sewage Disposals Systems.
9. Water Supply (well)
10. Landscape features such as walks, fences, etc.
11. Distances:
l From boundary lines to structure (front, back and sides)
l From leaching field and septic tank to structure
l From well to leaching field and septic tank
l From ALL adjacent wells, septic and leaching fields to your well and septic and leaching field.
l Checks for Building Permits made out to 'TOWN OF TOLLAND"
